Tool: The Ikigai Mapper

Recovery often starts with subtraction. You remove substances, remove certain people, remove old patterns and environments. That subtraction is necessary and it saves lives. But subtraction alone doesn't build a life you want to stay in. At some point, the work has to shift from "what am I removing" to "what am I building." The Ikigai Mapper is one of the tools that helps you make that shift. Ikigai is a Japanese concept that roughly translates to "a reason for being." This worksheet uses four simple circles — what you love, what you're good at, what the world needs, and what can support you financially — to help you find where those circles genuinely overlap. That overlap is not a magic answer key to your life's purpose. It's a starting point, a direction you can test and refine over time.

You’ve done the hard part.

You removed the substances, the people, the patterns that were pulling you under.

So why does something still feel…

missing?

Staying stable by only avoiding the old life can only carry you so far.

At some point, “not going backward” has to turn into “moving toward something.” If you’re steady but restless, if things look okay on paper but you’re quietly wondering what any of this is actually for, that’s not a setback.

That’s a signal you’re ready for the next layer of the work.

The Ikigai Mapper walks you through a simple but honest process of naming what you love, what you’re good at, what the world needs from you, and what can realistically support your life — then finding where those things overlap.

No perfect answers required.

Just an honest starting point you can build from.

This is where recovery stops being only about what you left behind and starts becoming about what you’re building next.

Come find your reason for being.
